How cargo density is calculated

Density (kg/m³) = Actual weight (kg) / Volume (m³)

Volume is calculated by the formula:
(length × width × height) / 1,000,000
(dimensions are in centimeters, result in cubic meters)

Example of density calculation:
Weight: 12 kg
Dimensions: 60 × 50 × 40 cm
Volume: (60×50×40) / 1,000,000 = 0.12 m³
Density = 12 / 0.12 = 100 kg/m³

How density is used:
In cargo shipping (especially in trucking or groupage shipments) the rules apply:

  • If density < 150 kg/m³ — volumetric tariff is applied.
  • If density ≥ 150 kg/m³ — actual weight is applied.
